The exhibition title, ROTOR,is derived from engineering and refers to a rotating body supported by an axlebearing, embodying a spirit of renewal and iteration.

The exhibition exploresthe philosophical dimension of the term ‘rotor’ asthe etymological root of ‘revolve’, framing it as ametaphor for the renewal and iteration of ideas and the ongoing evolution ofthought. Artistic concepts are in constant evolution, much like the continuousrotation of a machine’s components, rendering the creative process irreversible fromone era to the next. Within this ideological shift, a dialogue between thecontemporary and the conventional emerges in the context of the Louvre, formingthe shared vision of the exhibition.

In an increasinglydiverse global culture, the exhibition ROTORThe Carrousel du LouvreContemporary Art Exhibition 2024 presents a collective image of the currentera, placing art within a broader context. It aims to re-examine thefundamental essence of art, challenge prevailing conceptions and modes ofappreciation in the public sphere, dismantle hierarchical systems, and open upnew possibilities. The term ‘ROTOR’ also suggests how new waves and cyclical methodological shiftsgive rise to emerging genres, emphasising that only through forward movementcan we perceive an unpredictable future.
